I have tried to unscrew the piece underneath the plastic cover on the winding mechanism (and holding the take up spool but the force required seems to be too great – perhaps it has been over tightened at some point). The problems seems to be the connection between the thumb lever and the actual mechanism, as the thumb lever moves freely and independently of the rest of the winding mechanism. It can be removed in the exact same way as the top plastic cap - i suspect putting a small amount of ronosol can dissolve whatever that has been stuck inside over time. i found it easiest to load a roll of film and stop the winder from moving, before trying to take that off. The black cap on the right side of the viewfinder can be taken off easily, prying with your nails. the screw you see inside adjusts the horizontal alignment - be very careful and try not to apply force on this screw when you turn as it sits on a relatively fragile rangefinder mechanism.

If you push too hard, the mechanism will get stuck and you will need to take the whole top off.
